Sift Free Trial Improvements

Rethinking the First Impression

Timeframe: January 2023 - March 2023

Role: Senior Product Designer

Problem Statement:

Currently, the free trial walkthrough process is confusing for first time Sift visitors & those exploring the tool for the first time. Its important to allow the visitor to experience the best that Sift has to offer shortly after signing up for the free trial so that they have a positive experience that will encourage them to purchase Sift after the 14-day free trial is over. Stakeholders involved include Product, Design, & the Sales Team.

Current Free Trial Experience:

Exploring Opportunities

Through tracking the steps in the user journey, stakeholder interviews and user feedback we were able to identify 2 opportunities for visitors and free-trial users to streamline their experience, adding an option to accept an invite directly instead of waiting for an email invite and adding a back button to the admin dashboard so trial users could go back to their free trial instance.

Trial Redesign

Project Results

Main Issues

  • The process is too long. There are 12 different screens and interactions a visitor has to go through before they can begin the free trial.

  • No direction. After a free-trial visitor logs in for the first time, they don’t know where to start or where to go first.

Updates Added

  • Reduced screens. By eliminating and combining sign-in screens and interactions, we reduced the amount of steps by 58%.

  • Provided a clear path back. Added a “Back” button to the admin dashboard so users can return to their Sift instance.

  • Gave recommended next steps. For new trial users, we implemented screens which suggested the next recommended step.

After making the changes to the free trial experience, the acceptance rate jumped from 45% to >85% which lead to an immediate increase in sales and user satisfaction.
